The faces of India

Return to India

I am still ploughing through my archive photos and have not yet let go of my fascination with India. At the moment, I am actually trying to plan my next trip ... hopefully to Myanmar but with the upcoming election in November it is beginning to seem questionable. Fingers are crossed though.

In the meantime, in an effort to organise my photos and (hopefully) submit some to various photo contests, I leave you with yet a few more from my beloved India.

Lares, Peru

The paintings of Peru

In an attempt to find my "style", I spent the last year using my photos as material or inspiration for my paintings. I am relatively new to the painting world although I have been drawing for years. I use to dabble in acrylics but am now immersed in the world of oils and I must admit that I love it. I am not quite ready to share the the outcome of this experience (oh no, I am far to critical of my own work to do that!) but here are some of the photos that I have been using to help me find my way.

I took these while on the Lares Trek in Peru. It was a fantastic opportunity to meet some of the people and particularly the children face to face in this truly spectacular country and exchange a few words with my limited but slowly increasing Spanish vocabulary.

These are just a few of the photos that inspire my creativity.

Barcelona

Barcelona summertime

Summer in Paris or at least that is what they tell us.
It is not obvious from the weather or my choice of outfits today which consisted of tights, boots, leather jacket and a scarf! Thankfully, I just took my (much needed) annual trip to Barcelona but before downloading any new photos, I have been looking into my archives at some of my favourites. They are not necessarily beautiful photographic works of art but they remind me of what summer is supposed to be - bright colours and sun.
One particular attraction that I have to this city is the creativity which can be felt in the air and seen in the shops and on the streets. The cakes in the photo above are actually miniature and made out of candy from a shop run by Australians called Papabubble. I have also added two graffiti photos as well since I am particular drawn to them and they make the streets feel alive.

India

The women and children of India

It's a glorious day in Paris today. I spent the morning at my favourite café sketching, people watching and reading while sipping my café crème as I do almost every Sunday. I am now squinting to read my computer screen thanks to the glare of the sun (I am not complaining) in order to put up a few more photos. I am still working on the archives - posting favourites from the past.

We are back in India this week where I volunteered in March 2007. My memories of this experience still lie very close to my heart. What an amazing country. The women and children I met during my stay were extraordinary, beautiful, awe-inspiring. Their fingerprints have remained with me.

Vietnam

Vietnam

And so, my blog started off with a ...fizzle.
What? You mean I actually have to post photos on a regular basis?! I told you this was new to me.
Now I am back and ready to share my fingerprints with you (again).

I recently saw a friend who had asked to see some of my photos from Vietnam. I've chosen three, a bit of a random selection but they each define a bit of the character of the country. Of course, there are LOTS more but I'll start off slowly.

I must also forewarn you right now that there will be no coherent theme or logic to the why or which photos I post. Not for the moment anyway.

My fingerprints

This has been a long time coming.

The idea of a blog was not, initially, mine. Two very good friends had suggested on two separate occasions that I should put one together but I was not entirely convinced. To show someone my photos is one thing but to write about them is another. It is not really my forte. I'm a visual person - and more importantly, I can never really get that sarcastic biting wit into written words.

With that out of my way, welcome to my blog! The idea is that I will post photos that I have taken from my travels, from my life (I've been living in Paris for over 10 years) and will add some other ideas, inspirations and, yes, probably something related to chocolate over time. I have decided to call the blog FINGERPRINTS as they are individual to each and every one of us and are something we leave behind.

I hope you enjoy this glimpse at the world as I see it.
